Tutorial: How to install a radio

Tutorial: How to install a radio on your HD2

Happy with the signal your getting on your phone? Does your battery life drain really quick? Installing a different radio can help you get signal where you couldn't before and can extend your battery life.
First I'll list some common questions about radio.

1. What is a radio?
-The Radio ROM is the software part of your device that is powering on/off and controlling your radio interfaces. This includes Bluetooth, 2G/3G Phone, WiFi, GPS..... And it also includes the OEMSBL (Radio BootLoader) and other device specific firmwares needed for using your radio interfaces and for interfacing them with the OS (Windows Mobile/Android).

2. Why should I get a different radio?
-Extended battery life
-Better signal. Anywhere from getting more bars to improving 3g speeds.

3. Installation guide

(*Warning: Installing the wrong type of radio will brick your T-mobile HD2. Only use radios that are 50. 2.xx.50.x. Do not use any with a 51. 2.xx.51.x)
DO NOT USE 2.04.50.x OR 2.05.50.x
These are a list of what works.

2.06.50.x
2.07.50.x
2.08.50.x
2.09.50.x
2.10.50.x
2.11.50.x
2.12.50.x
  • First you must have HardSPL (HSPL). If you do not have one, check out my post on Custom Roms and it will explain it there.
  • Download a radio from this list. (*Note: Remember the warning)
  • After download, extract the file. (*Note: If you do not have one, you can use 7-zip.)
  • Open the folder and click on CustomRUU and follow the steps. (*Note: If the extracted file name is not "RUU_Signed.nbh", rename it and flash with the CustomRUU)
  • Finish! Enjoy your radio. (*Note: Different radios vary from person to person and phone to phone depending on where you are from)
