Hello!

How I hacked my HD2 and made it amazing!

I signed up for a mobile programming class and it was mainly focused on Android and Iphone. At the time, I broke my flip phone and had to use my mom's old Nokia brick phone. How embarrassing it was to be in a class full of people with Iphone's and HTC phones with Android, only to be the only person without one. One time in class, I forgot to turn off the ringer and everyone heard that old polyphonic ringtone. To save myself the embarrassment, I too looked around the room pretending it wasn't mine, trying to pinpoint where the sound was coming from and at the same time attempt to turn off the ringer.

I came home and my dad was told me that my contract for T-mobile was expiring soon and I was eligible for an upgrade. I wanted to get another phone so badly that had Android so I could test things in class and finally get rid of that dreadful old brick phone. I wanted either a G1 or a myTouch, heck anything Android would suffice. To my dismay, my dad came home with two HTC HD2s and I just could not believe that he got these phones. I've heard a lot of things about Windows Mobile such as how bad it is and I despised this phone without even trying it out. So I played around with it doing normal things like setting up email, visiting the marketplace, etc. and after a week of owning this phone I got super bored. T-mobile decided to roll out and update and I had no idea what I was doing. Fired up my browser, did some research and still had no idea what to do. Had to download this and that, install it on the phone, cab files??? blah blah blah. It was all just confusing to me that I gave up.

I finally had time over the summer to start tweaking my phone out and started to learn what WM was all about. Changed some stuff in the Registry editor, did all sorts of things and it was all starting to grow on me. All this stuff just fascinated me and I just kept tweaking stuff day by day, installing cab files, custom Roms, changing my splash screen, getting Flash to work with Opera 9, adding a startup sound, etc. By the time I knew it, I had a beast of a phone and loved every bit of it. I still was so intrigued by Windows Mobile that I dropped my mobile programming class. No biggie. I'll just have to learn C and Java and all that goodness.

Hopefully, you can learn from my experiences and you too will have a beast of a phone.
